At the current rate, gender equality in the highest positions of power will not be reached for another 130 years [2]. Just 17 countries have a woman Head of State, and 19 countries have a woman Head of Government [3]. The United Nations member states are the 193 sovereign states that are members of the United Nations (UN) and have equal representation in the UN General Assembly. The UN is the world's largest intergovernmental organization. The criteria for admission of new members to the UN are set out in Chapter II, Article 4 of the UN Charter:
